The Roadmap lays it foundation on the ARIEL project approach and results and serves as a tool to address short and mid- term strategic and operational actions of the ARIEL Knowledge Network for the small- scale fisheries and aquaculture, that has been established in 2020.
The ARIEL Knowledge Network Roadmap arisen from the ARIEL Policy and Technical recommendations Paper, published under the ARIEL WP3 “Transferring”, that was aimed at formulating advice to promote innovation speed-up and uptake in small-scale fisheries and aquaculture of the ADRION area.
The ARIEL Roadmap outlines some horizontal priorities for the small-scale fisheries and aquaculture sectors in the Adriatic and Ionian area.
The document covers the period 2022/2024 and sets goals and indicators for a realistic and achievable implementation of strategic and operational measures contributing to accomplish the Knowledge Network’s priorities. The overall structure is given; however, the Roadmap is also to be intended as a living tool since it could be integrated with specific issues and scales raised by the ARIEL Knowledge Network members and/or by the SSF and AQ stakeholder during consultation processes.
As for the horizontal priorities identification as well as of the operational actions, the contribution of previous and ongoing transnational projects has been taken in a considerable account. Transnational cooperation projects have, in fact, demonstrated their added value towards blue growth since they provided new insights and approaches for a common and sustainable management of sea resources. In addition, the cooperation projects outcomes enabled the identification of development trajectories for a sustainable blue economy in the ADRION area, delivering Action plans, guidelines and roadmaps.
The ARIEL PLUS Roadmap ambitions are:
• to address the ARIEL Knowledge Network operational actions for SSF and AQ innovation;
• to systematise and capitalize the stock of knowledge, tools and competences developed under cooperation projects targeting the small-scale fisheries and aquaculture sectors;
• to strengthen and widen the cooperation networks and partnership between policy makers, enterprises, associations, NGOs and civil society.
