Over 60 stakeholders operating in the small-scale fisheries and aquaculture sectors attended the first ARIEL regional event of innovation brokering dedicated to these two key sectors of the Adriatic-Ionian coastal communities. The event took place in Ancona and was arranged by the Marche Region in cooperation with CNR-IRBIM, ASSAM Marche and University of Macerata in the form of an interactive meeting. Participants from enterprises and business associations, research and academia, NGOs were accompanied and facilitated in working together to discuss and exchange of ideas and innovative solutions for innovation speed-up in day-by-day operations. Through the Open Space Technology approach, four Working Group spontaneously set-up to tackle core issues related to product, process and market –oriented innovation towards a more sustainable and competitive co-management of marine resources. The co-working led to the identification of a set of pilot actions to be supported within and beyond ARIEL project towards improved value, traceability and branding of seafood products, spatial conflicts and predation reduction, products and services diversification. Smart technologies and managerial tools applications were discussed for pilot testing both in small-scale and aquaculture, confirming how the public innovation support services could have an important role leading initiatives that bring fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders together so that they can each present their needs and jointly find out quick solutions.
